Offline and online Awareness-raising activities to enhance risk communication

  • by

In the latest months CRISAFE project promoted both offline and online activities in order to raise awareness regarding cascading risks, with the aim of targeting both the general public and technical and institutional actors.

The Croatian workshop, held in person in Zagreb in February 2026, focused on cascading risks related to earthquakes and flash floods affecting critical infrastructure. The event brought together institutional and technical stakeholders with the goal of strengthening knowledge exchange, inter-institutional cooperation, and preparedness capacities. The one-day workshop included institutional and technical presentations, sessions on cascading risk concepts and case studies, presentations of CRISAFE tools and approaches, and interactive components such as Mentimeter-based engagement, which supported real-time feedback and participation.  The workshop involved national and local authorities, civil protection agencies, infrastructure operators, technical experts and researchers, as well as representatives of relevant institutions. Participation reflected a strong institutional and technical profile, with a focus on operational actors. The main targets of the workshop were to enhance knowledge and understanding of cascading risks among operational actors, promote inter-institutional cooperation in disaster preparedness, demonstrate CRISAFE tools and methodologies in practice, and engage stakeholders through interactive sessions to gather feedback and improve usability.

On March 2026 the CRISAFE Webinar provided a transnational platform for disseminating project results and raising awareness of cascading risks among a wider audience. Contributions from multiple partners addressed both technical and non-technical participants. The agenda included an introduction to CRISAFE and the cascading risk framework, presentations of risk assessment approaches and cascading hazard scenarios, demonstrations of early warning systems and the CHEWS platform, insights from pilot area case studies, discussions on the human dimension of risk including awareness, perception, and preparedness, and guidelines for improving public access to disaster risk information.

The main targets of the webinar were to disseminate CRISAFE results to a broader international audience, raise awareness of cascading risks and mitigation strategies, provide a comprehensive overview of project outputs for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and encourage knowledge exchange and engagement with transnational participants.
