Within the CRISAFE project, Work Package 5 (WP5) – led by ISIG – focuses on Awareness Raising and Engagement, complementing CRISAFE’s technical and methodological developments.
WP5 aims to communicate CRISAFE’s objectives and results to a wide range of stakeholders and citizens, and to foster engagement in risk awareness and preparedness. These efforts are essential to support the uptake and real-world impact of CRISAFE tools and solutions by local communities.
As part of this effort, ISIG has developed an Awareness Raising Package, which includes educational and training materials designed to make complex scientific concepts on cascading multi-hazard risks accessible to everyone. The package brings together a set of resources to inform, engage, and stimulate dialogue among citizens, experts, and authorities.
The materials include:
- A Citizen Information Leaflet explaining the CRISAFE project, cascading multi-hazard events, their impact on daily life, and the role of citizen engagement in preparedness.
- A Guide to Cascading Multi-Hazard Risks, targeting both general audiences and stakeholders.
- A Citizen Risk Perception Questionnaire to gather insights on public awareness and perceptions of risks.
- Visibility materials, such as roll-ups and gadgets, to enhance public outreach.
These materials were recently disseminated in Gorizia, Italy, during two major events:
- the 53rd World Folklore Festival (August 2025), and
- the Italian Civil Protection Week (October 2025).
Through these initiatives, CRISAFE WP5 contributes to translating scientific knowledge into accessible formats and encouraging active citizen participation in building safer and more resilient communities.
